I think LOL is over used!! When I text someone and they end every message with LOL it drives me crazy! I prefer the ha ha ha or if it's REALLY funny the bwahahahahahaha.

Small lol for smile, all caps LOL for real laughs. Despite the acronym I think this is reasonable practice in IM speak.
